The Regional Government of Andalusia will allocate 20 million euros.
The Governing Council has taken cognizance of the new call for aid, by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, which support tangible and intangible investments in processing, marketing or development of new agricultural products in the field of olive groves.
These grants, which in 2023 have a budget of 20 million euros for projects linked to the production of olive oil and olives, have the ultimate goal of contributing to increasing the competitiveness of the olive sector in Andalusia and the added value of the products.
The Andalusian agribusiness has been betting in the last years on the implementation of numerous initiatives aimed at advancing in competitiveness, innovation and quality. It is also carrying out projects focused on other issues of great interest to the sector such as the incorporation of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) or the reduction of the environmental impact of the activity.
This call for aid facilitates the technological improvement of the handling and transformation processes of agricultural products, as well as their marketing channels.
However, there are still challenges that require further progress. It is the case, for example, of the specialization of the sector; the increase of the dimension and the internationalization of the companies; the valorization of the products and by-products; the energetic efficiency or the visualization of the role of young people and women.
Precisely to respond to these questions, the Andalusian Government makes available to the olive agro-industrial sector this call for aids that, among other issues, facilitates the technological improvement of the processes of manipulation and transformation of the agricultural products, as well as of its channels of commercialization.
In this sense, among the eligible concepts are also measures aimed at adapting products to new market trends, to improve the use of by-products, to promote diversification or to promote energy and water efficiency.
